1. Download Latest Thunderbird 20 for Linux

   Thunderbird 20 x86_64 tar.bz2

   Choose the Language from the Linked List of Thunderbird 64bit tar.bz2 Linux Releases.
2. Double-Click on Archive and Extract Into /tmp
3. Open a Terminal Window

   GnoMenu >> Accessories >> Terminal

   
4. Relocate Thunderbird:
   
   • Login as the SuperUser
     

     sudo su

   • Move Thunderbird to Location

     mv /tmp/thunderbird /opt/

     Overriding the Existing Default SymLink

     ln  -fs  /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird  /usr/bin/thunderbird

5. Now Just Use the Default Launcher for Starting the New Thunderbird
